Anime Festival Asia 2008 (AFA08) will be hosting the inaugural Singapore Arcade Showdown, a nationwide Arcade Gaming Competition organized by Singapore Cybersports & Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) and machines sponsored by TKA World (Virtualand, The Star Factory). The landmark competition will take place in The Arena Zone, the seventh and newest Experience Zone of the AFA08.

On both days of AFA (22, 23 Nov) Players will compete in any of the three latest fighting-game titles: “King of Fighters ‘98: Ultimate Match“; “Street Fighter IV“; and “Tekken 6“.

Most of you anime fans/otaku in Singapore are born in the late-80s and 90s at a cusp just after anime’s “golden age”. To catch up with history so as to better appreciate anime music by veterans like Ichirou Mizuki, my Japanese otaku comrade Don777 has written an excellent guide to the history of anisongs (アニソン) from the dawn of anime to the present age in two parts.

The Wandering Otaku
Those articles were originally posted on Akibanana. Don777 is an globe-trotting otaku who’s travelled all over the world. He has a particular fondness for Singapore, her society and food. Don used to write (and is still writing) about otaku culture on his personal blog in his native language. Earlier this year, he got a stint to write about his interest in English on an Akiba-themed portal. Just this month, he has set up his own sub-site to continue blogging about otaku culture in English, so that he can share his experience with kindred from all over the world.
