*GLOAT*
This was an unexpected find when I dropped by Tampines Mall on Sunday to get my weekly indulgence of Hong Kong comics:

Vault Boy
Yep. It’s the exclusive Vault Boy Bobble Head.
This figurine is part of the FALLOUT 3 PREMIUM PACK – the PS3 collector’s edition. Yes, I’m a fan of Wasteland/Fallout. No, I don’t own a PS3 (and quite reluctant to buy a console for that matter – I still consider myself a PC gamer although the last PC game that I remembered playing was Deus Ex back in 2001.

Fallout 3 Premium Pack PS3
For the past week, Fallout fans all over the world have eagerly been waiting for the release of this highly-anticipated sequel. It’s been like, more than a decade in the making after many false hopes and mis-starts. My good twin even said that no matter what, he will buy an original copy this time.
As for myself, I took the rare initiative of calling games shops after getting wind of the release date from the Game Axis site (though only at a time very close to the expected launch date). As much as I tried to search on the Net to ‘pre-order’ the collector’s edition Premium Pack, the result was null. And the official Sony Shops that I called didn’t know whether if they’re getting the Premium Pack or not….
I thought it’s a lost cause, until I casually strolled into the game shop next to Comics Connection to try my luck. And behold, that shop had a lunch box kept within the closet.
I didn’t blink an eye when told that the price was S$148. The game alone was already retailing for S$98.
It’s hard to resist this collector’s item given that it comes packed inside this retro tin lunch box package:

Lunch Box
There’s the game itself. Too bad I can’t play…

For PS3
There’s a making of video…

The Making Of Fallout 3
But too bad it’s in Bluray. I don’t have a Bluray player anywhere.
This is the prime reason why I’m willing to fork out money for this collector’s edition:

Fallout 3 Art Book
The Fallout 3 concept art book. It’s as much a fanboy thing to own as well as an occupational hazard.
Sometimes, the in-game graphics do not do justice to the concept design.

Pipboy Concept
But looking at the screen shot of in-game graphics, the CG artists have made the 3D game asset look better than the original idea on ‘paper’.
I’m a little disappointed with the Power Armour design, though.

Power Armour
I thought the Enclave Armour looked much nicer in Fallout 2. Perhaps, I’ve been spoiled by Japanese mecha designers.

Robots
I love robots. I would really love to see the final out come of these designs as game assets.

Storyboard
This set piece sums up the feel of Fallout.

Creative Team
Adam Adamowicz is the person responsible for most of the concept art. One of the respected masters of concept art, Craig Mullins, also contributed to this project. Istvan Pely is the lead artist for Fallout 3.
For gamers, I wonder if they’re appreciative enough to see the credits after they complete the game. Or do they exit the game as soon as the credits start rolling.

Vault Boy
Would I have prefered a Vault Boy figurine or a Brotherhood of Steel Power Armour figurine (exclusive UK distribution)? Apparently, there’s quite a bit of schwag to collect if you are hardcore enough to collect ‘em all. For me, I happy with Vault Boy.
