The Fool shows a child or youth, while the Magician depicts an all powerful adept. Just as the Fool showed us the price of eternal innocence, so this Magician gives us the fearsomeness of taking on responsibility. If the Major Arcana represents the Fool’s journey, the Magician is the first thing the Fool encounters.

Later this evening, I’ll be executing PROJECT RUNWAY…that’s the operation codeword for our wedding banquet/party.

I dread Chinese wedding dinners. Especially the cookie-cutter format ones with the agonising waiting time for dinner to start, and the all the predictable multimedia shows of growing up years and video footage of customary marriage rites, dry ice-march in, cutting of fake wedding cake, Kitaro-fanfare first course presentation, second march in, pouring champagne fountain, thank-you speech in three languages (sob-sob at some parts), yumseng, with some variations of ballroom dancing/live-Jazz band kthxbye…

I’ll have none of that.

We have the option of not having the banquet. After some thought, we decided to go ahead with it – but doing it our way without compromising the obligation to family honour.

This ought to be the finale to the contemporary marriage rites for Chinese couples in Singapore.

Comfort Items

We’re glad that we could take a pause between the customary wedding ceremony/solemnisation of marriage and the banquet. And we’re also glad that we were given two nights of stay at the wedding suite.

We decided to check in the day before the wedding so that we can move the logistics train forward and set up the operations room first. It allowed us to settle the in-processing and other administrative hassles before the actual day; it also provided a convenient place for us to do the final co-ordination before D-Day.

We feel more in control and less stressed now that we’ve got almost every detail sorted out.

Conducting a marriage isn’t very much different from running a military operation.
